Converting to AMSOIL in a used vehicle
It is Amsoils position that to convert to Amsoil Synthetic oil in a used vehicle, the engine should be clean and operating correctly without leakage from gaskets and seals. If an engine is very high mileage, perhaps synthetics are not for you at this time. For others, if the engines are clean and the oil is not showing signs of sludge, all that is needed is to change the oil and filter. If there does appear to be some sludging, then Amsoil recommends a crankcase cleaner (we have one of Amsoil brand) to be used according to the directions on the bottle. Again, this crankcase cleaner is not strictly necessary, but it will save you from having to change your oil filter and oil as soon as they become dirty from cleaning the engine. Crankcase cleaner is less expensive than four or five quarts/liters of oil and a filter.
